Voice in the Backseat

I had a pity-party for myself.

It was grand.

Games included sitting in silence, moping and wishing I was anywhere but here.

No guests came, just my self-pity thoughts.

Like I said, it was grand.

I am smiling now while I type this, because I probably looked so pathetic.

Why I thought this "party" would help me, I have not a clue.

I nanny, work at a daycare, babysit…oh and help teach 2nd grade at church.

I am surrounded by children.

Don't get me wrong, I love kids.

But, they really do get tiring exhausting.

My past summers have consisted of traveling to some really cool places, either on mission trips or family vacations.

I haven't really been able to do that this summer, so naturally I have a pity-party for myself.

Thinking back on it, I really thought I wasn't making a difference.
I love mission trips, because you get that spiritual high and you feel like you are doing SOMETHING.

I wasn't feeling like I was making a difference being stuck at home.

It wasn't till that one day when that voice in the backseat asked me, "who is God?"

Like a ton of bricks, it hit me.

This is my mission field.

Today, at this moment.
This summer.
This was where I needed to shine my light.
Not across the ocean to some foreign country where I could love on some orphan children.

No.

Right here, right now, in the backseat of my old Honda sat a child with a sweet soul who needed to hear about God's love.

Sure, there are days when I don't want to get up.
I get impatient or frustrated.
Praying constantly that they would just listen to me….

I wouldn't have it any other way.

I am here for a purpose, and that purpose was given to me by God.

That's a pretty important purpose if you ask me.

So, if you are feeling frustrated that maybe you aren't making a difference--look around.

There are people in this world that need YOU.

More importantly, they need Jesus.

I  don't think we truly realize how much our actions count in our everyday lives.
People are constantly watching, questioning and some are just plain curious.

Make them curious about this deep joy you have about life.

Who knows?

Maybe your mission field is somewhere you least expect it to be.

Kitchen Bliss: For the Table

The kitchen is the heart of a home.

For a girl who loves food, I could not agree more.

A kitchen is to be spacious, ready to be filled with memories.

A kitchen is also to be functional yet welcoming.

Welcoming, yet simple.

Here are a few things that I have come up with so far.

:)

I haven't made this yet, but it is on my to do list.
Will definitely blog about this after I create it!
Aren't these precious? A friend of mine makes  these, and I
knew I just had to have a set.
Here is her shop
I love that pop of color. You can buy
these at Walmart or Target.

Mugs are probably some of my most favorite things.
One can never have too many.
I bought mine at Target, but you really can find them anywhere.
I want to buy a few more.

I bought the green stripe one at Target for 74 cents and the other two plates at Walmart.
Sales are my best friend, so definitely keep your eyes out for those.
I love how these plates are different sizes too. Keeps it unique.
Painted Mason Jar and some flowers to add a bit of color.

In the next couple of weeks, I hope to add a little more to my collection of kitchen items so stay tuned.
